What makes a Good Blog Topic ?
So, you’ve found your topic and now you want to ensure that its actually something that considered quality. Here are a few ways to find out if your blog topic is any good.
Its relevant to your industry – As mentioned earlier, google is a goldmine. Use google to find out what your industry is searching for. The alphabet soup method alone can be used to find out what is currently being searched. Use this method for free and other resources such as ahrefs, semrush. ect. in order to know whats trending.
Its captivating – You have readers hooked. You usually can observe how long a reader is staying on your blog through google analytics on the backend of your blog. If you notice people are spending more and more time on a specific blog post. Then know you have a great blog post idea.
Consider using it as an Anchor post with supplementary topics you can then interlink within the original post. Now you’re sending your readers to other posts on your blog. This increases your chances to gain ad revenue and affiliate income.
Its linkable – People find your post so valuable and useful that you gain link from other bloggers. This is major as it can help your Domain Authority. Raising your DA as a result of a valuable blog post helps you rank easier, thus increasing your traffic and increasing your potential revenue based on Ad placements, merchandise, courses. ect.
What makes a Blog topic a Terrible Topic?
It gets low search volume– Your search volume is under 100 a month. This can often indicate that people aren’t looking for this particular topic. Reconsider something with about 200 and above search volume. Now some people use low volume topics to build traffic.
If this is your strategy then fine. However, in my opinion, if I see a search volume under 100, I tend to stay away. Remember the topics that high competition means they are valuable. Therefore, look for variables that you can still rank for. Try different search phrases, or related topics in order to find the sweet spot. For example, instead of “How to Start a Blog.” Try “How to start a blog on Shopify.” This may be less competition, but still at a sweet spot where you have the opportunity to rank.
What’s a sweet spot? Monthly search volume between 100-2k searches monthly.
Its not linkable– You’re not being helpful enough in your blog post. Therefore, you’re not attracting other bloggers who want to use your work on their blogs. Remember to try to be as helpful as possible. Providing genuine content will always out rank, out weigh, out last fluff content any day.
Conclusion
In conclusion, if you are looking to being creating traction for your blog. Select Idea posts as your first post on your blog. This will help you attract links and help develop your expertise on your blog.
